A Skilled Independent 189 visa is a type of visa that allows skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or a family member, and who meet certain criteria, to live and work in Australia permanently. This visa is designed for individuals who have skills and experience that are in demand in Australia, and who want to immigrate to the country independently.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Skilled Independent 189 visa, applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Australian government’s online SkillSelect system. They must also meet certain criteria related to their age, English language proficiency, education, work experience, and occupation, and must score a minimum number of points on the points-based system.
If an applicant is invited to apply for the visa and their application is successful, they and any eligible family members can live and work in Australia indefinitely. The Skilled Independent 189 visa is a popular choice for skilled workers who want to move to Australia without the support of an employer or family member.
Points Testing System
The skilled independent 189 visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who want to live and work in Australia. To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the points test requirements. The points test is used to assess your eligibility for the visa based on your age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors. You must score at least 65 points to be eligible for the visa.
The points test is based on the following factors:
- Age: You must be under 45 years of age to be eligible for the visa. The maximum points you can score for age is 30 points.
- English language proficiency: You must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following tests: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or OET. The maximum points you can score for English language proficiency is 20 points.
- Education: You must have a post-secondary qualification to be eligible for the visa. The maximum points you can score for education is 20 points.
- Skilled work experience: You must have at least three years of skilled work experience to be eligible for the visa. The maximum points you can score for skilled work experience is 20 points.
- Other factors: You may also be eligible for points based on other factors, such as study in regional Australia, partner skills, or nomination by a state or territory government. The maximum points you can score for these factors is 15 points.
In addition to meeting the points test requirements, you must also meet the health and character requirements to be eligible for the skilled independent 189 visa.
